It's Like Riding a Bike...

You know the phrase "it's like riding a bike, you never forget!" well it's not entirely true, you're a little nervous and shaky at first, but you will remember eventually. Lately, I've been really into bike riding - I've been going so often, I outgrew my cute little beach cruiser and bought a real (grown-up) road bike. There are a number of bike-friendly trails all across Massachusetts and New Hampshire that make for a great leisurely ride, a good workout and all around good time! We went on one trip - it was 14 miles of paved, flat, shaded bike path that ended near a lake and had a little picnic lunch, totally beats sitting in the hot car waiting in traffic to go to the beach!
I'm no 'Lance Armstrong' but I do enjoy a 10+ mile ride every once in a while, but I'm not really sure about the cyclist fashion style - tight spandex shorts and lycra, form-fitting shirts, soccer cleat looking shoes - I'm sure all that fancy clothing makes for a more aerodynamic, smoother ride - but I just don't have the figure to wear spandex all over! I think I'm going to opt for a casual pair of shorts, t-shirt and a hoodie - this terry set from Chadwicks is already sitting in my cart :) Because in the end, it's really what you're comfortable in. The most important bike riding gear is a proper fitting helmet: You always want to protect your head in case of anything!

So, pack a picnic lunch, ditch the car and bike ride somewhere!

Maternity Fashion

You find out your pregnant and probably the last thing that comes to your mind is what you will wear but sooner or later you are faced with the ever growing belly and the ever dwindling choices for clothes in your closet. This leads to shopping and many women dread maternity shopping. I discovered while pregnant with my daughter that it doesn't have to be a chore but rather a fun and exciting experience. I've found that you do not need to give up your own personal style or sacrifice your fashion sense just because your waistline is expanding. You can still wear the current trends and still shop at your favorite fashion stores and websites. There is no need to run to the maternity store and spend money on clothes you will never wear again just because the style really isn't your own. With the current fashion trends you can buy fashion forward clothes that will work on a pregnant body without breaking the bank or sacrificing your sense of style . Leggings have long been a maternity staple and now more then ever you can find a wide assortment of fun prints and colors everywhere. Some leggings are even made with denim. This is an amazing breakthrough that has solved the crisis of wearing the trendy skinny jeans while pregnant. Baby doll styles in dresses and tops are a great way to show off your belly and the return of tunics are a flattering solution to the issue of the what to wear on top of your leggings. With leggings and tunics also comes the great footwear known as flats, they are perfect for the ever expanding feet and serve as a fashionable alternative to wearing sneakers. Giving up your heels is hard but nothing throws off your balance like a protruding belly not to mention the back pain you will experience. I'm a heel addict and love the way retailers have made flats just as fun and stylish as pumps. It's sometimes hard to feel fashionable while pregnant especially while your body changes sizes daily but with leggings and tunics you can still be comfortable and fashionable while you grow. The best part about buying clothes you love and not just clothes you settled on while pregnant is that after you have your bundle of joy you will be able to wear your new styles over and over again(we all know you just don't go back to the size you where over night.) I know after the arrival of my daughter I lived in roomy tunic tops and leggings I bought while I was pregnant. With fashion being the way it is today, its a great time to be pregnant !!! Now that I am 5 months pregnant with my son and showing I am looking forward to shopping at my favorite web site Chadwicks.com and buying the clothes I love and would have bought anyway regardless of my pregnancy! Shopping for great new clothes is now just another fun perk of being pregnant. If you are pregnant try your favorite stores or websites before you run to the maternity store or department you may just be surprised as to what you will find:)

The fight is year-round (not just October)

Good morning! I'm Rob from the Marketing team and as many of you know, we started selling "Change" T-shirts in October. $5 from every sale is going straight to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. They run in four sizes (S-XL), two colors (black & white) and six "Change" messages. The black shirts do not have the ACS logo on the back, but the white shirts do. Click here for details. (You can use a promotion code on these shirts too!)
Countless families have been effected by this disease whether directly, through a close friend, or someone in their community. Help us join the fight as our goal is to raise $25,000 for the cause by the end of 2009. Here's a picture of my two girls. They love these shirts (well... anything connected to Dad's work is fun for them)!

What I'm Watching...

What am I watching you ask? A LOT of different shows! Because of DVR my life is now surrounded around the TV shows I am watching/DVRing. I like to watch for the pure enjoyment of each show, but I also like to take notice of all the latest trends that are shown. I like to watch Gossip Girl, 90210, Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries...all the girlie stuff, but that's where they show the best clothes! Who could forget The Hills and The City! The list goes on! Just think of how much money the wardrobe of each show costs...that's what got me thinking...if I see it on tv, where can I get it at a much lower price? I'm sure Chadwick's has something comparable to what you're seeing on the screen. Remember, it doesn't always have to be exactly the same, take the style as an idea and make it your own! Just take a look at the examples!

Brands! Brands! Brands!

Our sister site, metrostyle.com also has a blog where we talk about fashion trends and give our customers an idea of who we are. A post on the metrostyle blog sparked my idea for this entry: Labels. I agree with the author of that post; everything has a label and it's the way we classify our lives - brands define us; and I'm not just talking about the figurative labels, it's everything. What makes us buy brand name toilet paper versus store brand, or Hood milk over any other brand - It's the perceived quality.

This past weekend, I went to the outlet mall and found myself spending over $100 on base layers for winter sports, because they have me convinced that their special "moisture wicking" technology will keep me warm while I'm on the mountain. All my gear is brand name because I don't want to be seen as "not cool" or not "part of the crowd". But are you less cool if your sunglasses don't have a Gucci label on them? What does it say about you when you're walking down the street with a Louis Vuitton bag - other people will probably have already made judgments about you that you didn't even know.

I'm a homeowner and it's true when people say your perspectives change when you buy a home, I find myself wanting to look more in the home goods section rather than the clothing section. Then I see my friends and coworkers with those luxury brand handbags and shoes and I say "I want that!" But how can I justify spending $1,000+ on a handbag, when that money can go towards my mortgage? But how do you keep up? When does it end?!

Regardless of our brand hoarding, we should all be glad that there are brands like Chadwicks and metrostyle out there - We've got the classics and the hot fashion trends at great prices and "Real Steals", and we offer real quality, not just that "perceived" stuff you pay extra for. And that is how we can keep those other girls guessing, where did she get that coat/sweater/bag/shoes?
