Reunion Outfit

My 8th aunt called me the other night for a family reunion that will take place in this coming summer in Toronto. In my memory, a family reunion is usually a serious event in which we all have to dress up 80% formally and 20% casually. Since I will be representing my parents, who are only willing to take flight within 2-hr distance, I’d better start thinking about what I am gonna wear for the family reunion.

According to my mom’s rules, I should wear dress/skirt that can cover my knee during the family reunion. No jeans, no pants, no sleeveless top & no open-toe heels.

Here's my outfit plan:

Skirt Suit: Even though those flower sandals look amazing with the skirt suit, I will have to pick other heels this time :(

Here are the heels that I am thinking about....

What to Wear on Vacation

Vacation is one of the most important things in life. We do a lot of plannings, such as where to go, what to check, where to eat, where to visit... and most importantly, what to wear! As I am planning my annual never-know-when-it's-gonna-happen vacations, I start imaging what I should wear in some of these countries when I visit them (someday):

Calgary, Alberta (Canada)

I'm from a tropical island, and that's why I always want to go to Calgary in fall to check out the beautiful city, mining & the cold cold cold weather! Enjoy the delicious organic food over there and experience the Calgary culture. Going to Calgary, I think all I really need is just a pair of jeans and a nice warm coat.

Ginza, Tokyo (Japan)

Ginza is a fun place to visit. It is a Tokyo version of 5th avenue New York where you could simply have a lot of fun just by yourself without having a company with you. Sleep in the morning, shop in the afternoon, have dinner in a ramen place, and enjoy your night in an izakaya. A nice little black dress should be enough for Ginza.

Boston, MA (USA)

It may sound funny when I say I want to visit Boston while I live in Boston & work in Chadwicks of Boston :) However, Boston is just such a nice beautiful city that combines both modern and classic elements. There are still so many places that I haven't visited since I moved here 2 years ago. It may be a good idea just to take off a day from work, put on a nice sweater and walk around in the city before winter arrives!

Athena's Gown

Greek mythology is one of the many things that I like. Interesting stories, such as Sisyphus, which is my favorite one, and beautiful goddesses. For some reason, it's not easy to get a real Greek-goddess-style evening gown these days. With a coming party that I have to attend, I decide to start looking for a gown that is close to the one that Athena wore (just without the weapon) for myself.

Here's my research:

Two-piece evening gown? Athena may forget her jacket somewhere...

A short dress? Athena is a warrior, and it must be inconvenient for a warrior to fight in a short dress.

A tight little dress? The turnaround of this dress is gonna be very high for her during war time.

What about just a simple one-shoulder gown? That's a statement of Athena! Brave, confident and beautiful, the goddess of war, wisdom and the crafts.

Scarlett O'Hara

I was chatting with my product manager the other day about movies, and I was telling her how much I love the movie "Gone with the Wind." I've probably watched it for more than 10 times since I was 10, and I am just so fascinated by the story and especially Scarlett O'Hara's styles.

"I wish I was born in that generation so that I could dress like Scarlett, and meet guys who dress like Rhett Butler," I said.

"The style is timeless, isn't it?" our product manager said.

"Timeless? You mean people are not gonna think I'm crazy if I wear that green dress on a first date?"
I replied.

"Probably not that green dress... how about the hat?" she said.

Yes, this is the hat! A real Scarlett O'Hara style hat.

'90s Fashion

After my boss was back from Paris, my workload was strangely increased by 40% (don’t you wish that’s a salary increase?).

So one of my new tasks is to compile detailed history of CHADWICKS. Yes, everyone has a past, and it is the past that brings us to where we are today (and yes, I like to make summary out of everything). Compiling Chadwicks history is actually a lot more fun than expected. For example, I learned that Chadwicks was actually called Chadwick’s of Boston before. Chadwicks was the first women’s apparel catalog in this country. Another thing I found is that I actually like some of the clothes on those '90s catalogs!!

<1989>

<2009>
Check out this “lavished-with-lace Clues" in the above picture (the black dress on the left hand side). Isn’t the dress gorgeous? There is almost zero difference between the “Clues” from the '90s and a strap dress from 2009.

So my conclusion from this new task is: buying timelessly stylish clothes is an investment (no, I am not going to say this to my boss).

We Love Big Earrings!

I love big earrings. Like really really really big ones. However, there is one thing that bugs me – gravity. Here’s my issue: when you wear big earrings, every turn or movement of your head seems to make your earring holes bigger, and you do feel the pain when your earrings are terribly overweight (like the ones I am wearing today).

So here are my solutions for people who like big earrings: (1) when someone calls you, don’t just turn your head but turn your whole body so that you can reduce the movement of your head! It may look a little bit strange, but at least you can protect you earring holes! (2) Just simply get some light wood earnings instead of some crazy raw metal. Light wood earnings can create that exotic feeling just like metal earrings.

How do I know the wood earrings on her are light? That's what our customer said, "These are large, but not too heavy. The wood is a nice color. Pleasantly surprised!"

“It’s just disorganized.”

So my boss stopped by my cube today, and asked me for our latest fall fashion collection book. He was standing there for literally almost 5 minutes just to watch me searching for it. 5 minutes is certainly not a long time for a cup of coffee, or for picking the dress for tomorrow's date. However, it’s quite an unbearably long time for my boss who was desperate wanting to see our latest fall book after he got back from Paris. “Arg… you know… my desk is not dirty; it’s just a little bit disorganized,” I said while I was looking for the book.

Finally, after another 2 minutes, I found the BOOK. The latest CHADWICKS FASHION book for fall 09. Now you can return to your office, Mr. Y (that's how we call him).
